MWIA Youth: Introductory session - Drone in Timber Industry
As drone technology continues to revolutionize various industries, the Malaysian Wood Industries Association (MWIA) hosted a 2-hour introductory session on drone applications in forestry, tailored specifically for the timber sector. Designed for beginners and non-pilots, the session offered MWIA members an excellent opportunity to explore how drones are enhancing efficiency, safety, and sustainability across the timber supply chain—particularly in Industrial Tree Plantations.
Participants were introduced to the core technologies that are making a difference in forest management and timber operations:
-
Airborne LiDAR Missions – Using 3D laser scanning to analyze forest structure
-
Airborne Photogrammetry – Capturing aerial imagery for forest mapping and land assessment
-
GNSS Data Acquisition – Understanding satellite positioning systems in forestry workflows
-
DJI Terra Software – Processing and interpreting drone data for actionable insights
This non-flying session laid a strong foundation for those interested in integrating drone technology into their operations, empowering members to make informed decisions as they adapt to modern forestry practices.
